 North Hills Selected for a third consecutive year to participate in 2010-2011 Atlas and Athena Program

North Hills to host the Kickoff to the 2010-2011 Atlas and Athena/Pittsburgh Steeler Program

The following schools were selected to participate in the program for 2010-2011. There will be an initial meeting at North Hills High School on Tuesday, October 12th.

Atlas and Athena Training at Heinz Field

 The NFL Atlas and Athena programs, funded by the NFL's Youth Football Fund in conjunction with Oregon Health and Science University, will reach 16 National Football League Cities this year.

The Atlas and Athena Programs are nationally acclaimed programs designed to promote healthy living and reduce the use of steroids, human growth hormone use, and other drugs among high school athletes.

North Hills High School, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Steelers, will see 20 team captains and leaders receive training on the promotion of healthy nutrition and exercise practices as an alternative to drug use.

The Atlas Program focuses on the male athlete, and the Athena Program on the female athlete. The training of "squad leaders" will empower the student athletes to lead their peers to promote healthy behaviors and and sports nutrition.
